Who should use Royalty Free Images?
If you don’t want to worry about how and when you can use a specific stock photo, then a good idea is
to look for Royalty Free Images. Unlike Rights Managed photos, Royalty Free Images are licensed for unlimited use.
You will never need to pay a renewal fee for Royalty Free Images or pay an additional licensing fee to use the photo
in another project.
Why are some photos considered Rights Managed while others are Royalty Free Images?
We only represent professional photographers and illustrators. Our editing group does an extensive review of all
photos and illustrations submitted to us before they are accepted in our library and placed online for you to license.
It is the photographer or illustrator who decides if their image will be Rights Managed or Royalty Free. They make their
own decision based on what is best for their business, and Index Stock Imagery does not influence the decision. Most of
our contributors work with Rights Managed photos but we do have an excellent collection of Royalty Free images.
Are there any limitations on the use of Royalty Free Images?
You cannot resell the royalty free photos. You purchase a license for unlimited use of the Royalty Free Images
but you do not own the photos. The photographer always retains the ownership rights. You also cannot use the
Royalty Free Images licensed from Index Stock Imagery in an inappropriate manner such as pornography. That is not allowed.
You are allowed to use the photos as an integral part of products or services that you sell. For example,
the royalty free photos can be included in a book, as part of a book or CD cover, as graphics in software or training materials, etc.
