A: Index wants to give those who use its site more control over how the site behaves and looks. The Options Panel lets you decide how many images you will see, how deeply you will search our site, and how our site will look. Q: Do I have to set or change my Options? A: No. Many users will find the default Option settings to be perfect for their needs. Q: Do I have to be a registered user of the Index Stock site, to save my Options? A: Yes. Only those who have registered with Index Stock get the right to set and save their personal Options. It is one of the benefits we offer to those who register with us, like our exclusive ImagePoints program (that lets you earn free gifts with each license you make). Q: How do I change my Options? A: After you enter a search, a blue rectangle will appear to the right and just above the first row of images. Within this blue rectangle will be your login id name and the word “Options.” Click on the link inside this rectangle, and you will open a new window that contains your Option settings. After you change a setting, click on the “Save Settings” button at the bottom right of the Options box. Your settings will be saved and will be remembered for the next time you visit Index Stock. Q: What is the “Images Per Page” setting? A: Use this setting to change how many images show up on each page of your search results. For instance, if your search returned 100 images and your Images Per Page Option was set at 12 images, you would see 9 pages of images. If you change your Option setting to 60 images, you would see only 2 pages. Be careful with this setting if you have a slow Internet connection, as it may take a long time to load each page if you choose a high number of images Q: What is “Search Depth?” A: Some users want to see every possible image that may meet their needs. Others only want to see the best 1,000 or 5,000 images. Use this setting to cap the number of images that you get, when you search. Q: What is the “Caption Display” Option? A: Some users don’t like to see captions under our images—they feel it distracts them. Others need to see the captions to quickly understand the content of the image. This Option let’s you either see captions or hide them. Q: What is the “Typical Use” Option? A: If you are working on an advertising or marketing project, you probably can’t use images that don’t have model or property releases. Instead of making you click on a filter box to exclude unreleased images, you can instead click on the “ad/marketing” choice. All images not suitable for ad use should be excluded. The default is “all/editorial.” That will ensure that you see all images, regardless of their release status. Q: What is the “Time in Collection” Option? A: Most times, users want to see all of the images that match their search terms. However, sometimes, a user only wants to see images that are fairly recent. Frequent users of the Index Stock site may only want to see images that have been added in the past few months. To get just these most recently-added images, choose the “Fresh” Option. Q: What is the “Color Adjustment” Option? A: Color adjustment is actually two options in one. The “Change Calibration” drop down menu lets you change the gamma setting of our images. This lets you adjust the saturation of our images, to suit the color profile of your monitor, the amount of light or reflection on your screen, or your sense of what looks good! Each time you change this setting, the sample image at the right changes. We have provided 6 different colors to choose from. Q: What is “Change to Mac Skin?” A: When you run a software application on the MacIntosh computer, you should be able to take full advantage of its strong graphics and powerful image processing. Our “Mac Skin” transforms our basic PC-oriented site style into a more Mac-centric look and feel. Try it. If you don’t like it, you can always switch back! (By the way, PC users can try it too, and get a little taste of what they are missing by not having a Mac!)
